# The clones that show your real store

> Many people picture a store clone as a fake shop someone built once and left to go stale. Some clones work differently. They show the real store through their own domain, and for a shopper they are hard to spot.

## What we mean

A clone of this kind has its own domain, but what a visitor sees is your store: your products, your prices, your photos. That is what we mean when we say a clone is proven serving the real store.

It is different from a lookalike that only borrows your name or look. The page is not a picture of your store. It is your store, at an address you do not control.

## Why it is hard to spot

A fake shop goes stale. Prices drift, products sell out, photos change, and a shopper who knows the store can sometimes tell. A clone that shows the real store stays current. Nothing in the page itself tells a visitor they are somewhere else.

Shoppers also rarely read the address bar. They arrive from a search result, a message or a shared link, and trust what they see.

## Why it matters to a merchant

- **Trust.** A shopper on the wrong address is trusting your name with a site you do not run.
- **Support and reviews.** Confusion, disputes and complaints about an order that never came land on you, not on whoever runs the clone.
- **Search.** Pages on the clone can compete with your own pages for the same searches.
- **Control.** You cannot see or change what happens at that address.

## How merchants usually find out

Most store owners hear about a clone from a customer, a support message or an odd search result, often well after it appeared. By then it may have been showing your store to visitors for some time. Earlier notice helps because the evidence is fresh, you can save dated pages while they still load, and each company you report to gets a clearer picture.

Looking at the clone yourself rarely raises an alarm either. You see your own store and it looks fine, which is exactly why it works on everyone else.

## What this does not tell us

A clone that shows your store is not evidence of what its operator does next, and we make no claim about any one site beyond what we can show. It does mean your name is in use at an address you did not choose, and that is reason enough to look.

## What you can do

- Look at your store name on its other endings from time to time.
- The day you find one, save dated screenshots and the exact page addresses.
- Send reports to each company that can act. Our guide lists where, and what each can and cannot do.
- Live figures on the clones we are tracking sit on the home page, each with its date.

Lookalikely is built to do the watching for you and to prepare the reports. It is not live yet; the card below is how to hear when it is.
